39th day at MSR Cresson with Ride Smart and the Ty Howard School. First time back on the bike after the crash. I was a little nervous but it didn't show. I think I was really luck to not remember the crash. I did start really slow for the first few laps following Ty. But once he let us go I was running low 30's without trying. I pulled over and took a second to think about what I was doing and then ran another two laps both in the high 20's with a 27.3 best. I did try to take it easy but the urge to go fast was boiling out of me. Looking back, 27's were great but I wanted more. The rest of the day I had no problem running very low 25's with a best of 25.1 until the last session of the day. And it's not like I couldn't have gone faster but there was just too much traffic and the track was way too cold and slick. This was one of the fullest days I've every been to and being one of the fastest on the track didn't help. We came in one time for class and one of the students pointed out that I lapped him 3 times in one session. I don't know that I did but it was cool to here it. The sad thing was that with the way I was riding, I really think that 22's and 21's were possible but there was just no room and the track wasn't helping. The last session was a little more empty that the rest but not by much. The only problem was that the sun was going down and the track had already started to cool down and you could tell. It was so bad that there were two corners that you had to coast out of all day. Important corners that cost me a number of fast laps. Either way I pulled a few faster laps and got down to 1:24.344 which was my best all day. I was still fighting traffic but there was a little more room. Two sessions ago and that would have been a 22. Ty actually followed me that last session and had a lot of good things to say. He thinks that if I can learn ECR by Saturday that I should clean up there. It was cool having him tell me that I was running well. While 24's are not 22's I think I did well and it looks like the crash didn't slow me down much if at all. 22's may not have been out there today for me under these conditions. Next up is ECR with Texas Track Days. They have actually asked me to instruct. Nice! |
